One way to help thin down your photo collection is to run a deduplicating program or app.
There are several programs and apps out there.
For a Mac: Photosweeper
Duplicate File Finder Pro
Gemini 2
If you have a PC you can try:
Duplicate Cleaner 5
Google File Go 3
Works with either Mac or PC:
DupeGuru
A good deduper for (iPhone) is the GoodOnes app. This simple app is very user-friendly, and you can do small "batches," which makes this a nice one to use if you want to use small snippets of time. It also keeps track of where you left off. Watch this video to see how simple it is.
Also, for iPhone users, there is a utility to dedupe. I ran this one a few days ago, and it was very simple. The cool thing is it will combine dupes, so if you have information (metadata) on one photo that is not on the other photo, it takes that info and uses the photo with better quality. The following video shows how to delete screenshots. You can follow me on YouTube for more "How To" videos.
You can try Google File Go, Gallery Doctor-photo Cleaner, or Remo Duplicate Photo Remover for Android phones.
Note: I have not tried all of these programs or apps unless noted. Trusted photo manager colleagues or other trusted sources recommend these apps and programs. I would love to hear if you use one of these or if you have another, you really like.
Thank you for the tips on decluttering pictures. As someone who has way too many duplicates
